GEO pricing is unsettled because the category is young. This page explains what you are actually paying for, what changes the price, and exactly what Terrank charges — so you can compare like with like.

How much does GEO optimization cost?

GEO work is usually priced one of three ways: a one-off audit, a recurring monitoring and optimization subscription, or an agency retainer. A one-off audit is the cheapest way to find out where you stand; recurring plans cost more because AI answers change continuously and a single snapshot goes stale.

The wide spread in the market is mostly a difference in what is being sold, not a difference in quality. Comparing a one-time report against a monthly retainer on price alone tells you very little.

What you are actually paying for

Three things: measurement, interpretation, and change. Measurement is querying AI engines and recording whether they cite you. Interpretation is working out why. Change is actually fixing the pages. Most of the price difference between providers is how much of the third one they do.

What is includedWhat it answers
Prompt monitoringDo AI engines cite us, for which questions, and how often?
Citation checkingWhere are we cited, and who is cited instead when we are not?
Structural analysisCan our content be extracted at all — schema, structure, crawl access?
Competitor analysisWho is winning the answers we want, and what are they doing?
ImplementationIs someone actually changing the pages, or just reporting?

A cheap report that stops at measurement is not automatically bad value — if you have a team who can act on it, that may be exactly what you need.

What drives the price up or down

Four factors: how many prompts are tracked, how many AI engines are covered, how often the audit repeats, and whether implementation is included. How often the audit repeats matters most, because AI answers shift continuously and a quarterly snapshot cannot catch that.

  • Prompt count — tracking 20 questions is a different exercise from tracking 200.
  • Engine coverage — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity retrieve differently, so each adds real work.
  • How often it repeats — weekly costs more than monthly, and is worth more in a fast-moving category.
  • Implementation — reporting is cheaper than doing; doing is what changes the outcome.
  • Site size — a five-page site and a 5,000-page site are not the same audit.

Should you buy a one-off audit or an ongoing plan?

Start with a one-off audit if you have never measured your AI visibility. It tells you whether you have a technical problem, a content problem, or an authority problem — and those need very different responses. Move to a recurring plan once you know the answer and want the position maintained.

Buying a monthly subscription before you know your baseline is a common way to waste money. Diagnose first.

The cheapest check costs nothing

Before paying anyone, confirm that AI crawlers can reach your site at all. If your robots.txt or firewall blocks GPTBot or ClaudeBot, no amount of paid optimization will help. The 50-point GEO audit checklist walks through it free.

What Terrank charges

Terrank prices in three tiers: a $30 one-time GEO audit, Terrank Pro at $100 per month for a full audit every 15 days across 100 prompts and 4 AI engines, and Terrank Max at $250 per month for weekly audits across 200 prompts and 5 engines with marketing and technical assistance included.

PlanPriceHow oftenPromptsEngines
GEO Audit$30 one-timeOnce——
Terrank Pro$100/monthEvery 15 days1004
Terrank Max$250/monthWeekly2005

Every tier includes the GEO Score, structural analysis, LLM probing, SERP analysis, citation checking and change recommendations. Pro and Max add competitor analysis and our AI engine working on your site between audits; Max adds marketing and technical assistance.

The $30 audit is strictly one-time — no auto-renewal and no recurring frequency. Full plan comparison.

Is GEO worth paying for yet?

It depends on whether your buyers ask assistants for recommendations before they buy. If they do, being absent from those answers costs you consideration you never see. If your demand is transactional, local, or branded, classic SEO deserves the budget first.

A useful test: open ChatGPT and ask the question a buyer in your category would ask. If a competitor is named and you are not, that is the gap you would be paying to close. If nobody in your category is named, the category may not be worth optimizing for yet.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a GEO audit cost?

A one-time Terrank GEO audit costs $30 and includes target query identification, a performance report, a GEO Score, structural analysis, LLM probing, SERP analysis, citation checking and prioritized change recommendations. It is a single purchase with no auto-renewal.

What is the difference between Terrank Pro and Terrank Max?

Terrank Pro is $100 per month and delivers a full audit every 15 days while monitoring 100 prompts across 4 AI engines. Terrank Max is $250 per month, audits weekly, monitors 200 prompts across 5 engines, and adds marketing assistance and technical assistance. Max includes everything in Pro.

Do I need a monthly plan, or is one audit enough?

One audit is enough to establish your baseline and tell you whether you have a technical, content or authority problem. A monthly plan makes sense once you know the answer and want the position maintained, because AI answers change continuously and a single snapshot goes stale.

Is there a free way to check my AI visibility first?

Yes. Ask ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity the question a buyer in your category would ask and see whether you are cited. Then confirm your robots.txt and firewall are not blocking GPTBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot — if they are, no paid optimization will help until that is fixed.
